Low-Cost Airlines Expand Morocco-Europe Flights, Boosting Tourism and Connectivity

February 2026/By Nomad travel

Low-cost airlines are significantly boosting air connectivity between Europe and Morocco, making travel easier and more attractive for international tourists. Transavia, the Dutch budget carrier, recently added several routes to its growing Moroccan network.

Transavia reports strong and steady growth in demand for travel to Morocco, driven by tourism, family visits, and cultural links between Morocco and the Netherlands. The airline is expanding its Moroccan network in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), as part of a broader strategy focused on fleet renewal, sustainability, and international growth. During the winter season, Transavia operates nearly 55 weekly flights from the Netherlands and Belgium to nine Moroccan destinations: Al Hoceima, Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Nador, Oujda, Tangier, and Rabat.

Transavia has announced the launch of a temporary summer route between Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Oujda, in north-eastern Morocco, responding to sustained demand for travel to the region. The airline will operate twice-weekly direct flights every Monday and Thursday from 2 July to 31 August 2026, strengthening its Moroccan network and underlining the country’s strategic importance. The new route is aimed particularly at travellers in the Netherlands with strong family ties to Oujda and the surrounding region, where demand traditionally peaks during the summer period.

At the same time, Ryanair announced the opening of a new base in Rabat starting April 2026, strengthening Morocco’s air connectivity ahead of the 2030 World Cup. The base will operate 20 routes, including 7 new international connections to major European cities, and will make Rabat Ryanair’s fifth base in the Kingdom. This expansion will significantly boost summer capacity, support hundreds of local jobs, and further enhance Ryanair’s growing network across Moroccan cities such as Rabat, Marrakesh, Fez, Agadir, and beyond.

These developments come at a time when Morocco continues to grow as a top tourism destination, with more direct and affordable flights encouraging visitors to explore everything from historic capitals to coastal gems. Expanded services by Transavia and Ryanair not only make popular cities like Rabat, Fez, and Tangier easier to reach, but also open up new seasonal connections that support tourism throughout the year.
